The first 164 pages of the Alcoholics Anonymous "Big Book" have stayed almost exactly the same as originally written in 1939. Time and experience have proven this to be the purest instruction manual for spiritual treatment of addiction. As compulsive eaters, we learned we suffer from the same underlying illness as alcoholics — we use food compulsively, while alcoholics drink alcohol compulsively. When we applied their same solution, we received the same quality of recovery that the early pioneers experienced — freedom and neutrality.
